Keane Backline is an unofficial website about the UK band Keane, specifically focussing on the various instruments and technology they use to make their music. It will attempt to provide a definitive listing of the gear that the band have used over the years, both in the studio and when playing live. There will also be more in-depth features on certain topics, as well as interviews when possible to help get the inside word from the band or their crew. Although not currently aimed as a basic "fan site", there will hopefully be enough to keep general fans interested, even if they wouldn't consider themselves geeks!
Hi! My name is Martin McDonald (but most people just call me Mart) and I'm the guy behind Keane Backline. I've been a fan of Keane since late-2003, when I first became aware of them through the BBC's Sound Of 2004 poll. Being a budding musician myself, I've always taken a strong (some might say "unhealthy") interest in what gear the band use to create their sound and on how they've developed over the years. As a result, I became reknowned on the
old official message board for my posts explaining what particular instruments and effects were, particularly during the daily photographic updates on the
official site when the band were recording their third album,
Perfect Symmetry. A fellow music geek suggested that I should make up a website to cover all this stuff... and hey presto, it's finally arrived!
You'll still find me posting frequently on the messageboard and I also make occasional guest appearances on the brilliant
Beyond The Iron Sea unofficial Keane podcasts - they are definitely worth subscribing to, with a great mix of news and humour from hosts Chris and Andrew, so go and check them out if you haven't already done so. If you want to get in touch with me about anything, visit the
Contact page to send me a message.
Keane Backline features a mailing list which will periodically update subscribers about news on the site, forthcoming features, updates and so on. If you'd like to be kept updated, please enter your e-mail address below and hit the Send button.
